Sunset in Tanah Lot

Chasing the Sunset at Tanah Lot: A Memorable Bali Experience

Departing from Kuta

At 16:00, I was waiting near our hotel in Kuta. We were scheduled to leave at 16:15. Our route passed Raya Kuta Road, Sunset Road, Kerobokan Road, Br. Semer, Raya Canggu Road, and finally Tanah Lot.

Along the way, we made a quick stop at a money exchange to convert US dollars to rupiah. The rate at that time was IDR 16,250 per USD. With cash ready, we continued toward Tanah Lot. Traffic was quite heavy, especially around Raya Kerobokan and Raya Canggu, as locals were heading home from work.

Scenic Views in Canggu

The drive offered stunning scenery. I asked the driver, “How beautiful this area is! What’s it called?”
“Canggu, sir,” he replied.

Canggu is surrounded by lush green rice fields. The village atmosphere, combined with fresh air, made the ride relaxing. The landscape was calming, and I couldn’t stop admiring the rice paddies stretching into the horizon.

Arrival at Tanah Lot

By 17:30, we arrived at Tanah Lot. The weather was perfect—clear skies and sunny—ideal for watching the sunset.

There are three gates to reach the beach:

1. Entrance fee gate: IDR 75,000 per person (drivers and guides enter free).

2. Ticket check gate: where you show your entrance ticket.

3. Beach access gate: leads directly to Tanah Lot beach.

After paying, we parked and walked along a path lined with stalls selling Balinese handicrafts, batik clothes, carvings, paintings, and small local restaurants. Everything looked vibrant and inviting.

Experiencing the Sunset

At the beach entrance, I paused to take in the view. On the left, a temple stood firmly on a rock, framed by the sky glowing with the approaching sunset.
“It’s amazing that they built this temple here,” I whispered. On the right, another temple perched on a cliff overhanging the sea, equally stunning.

We hurried down the stairs to get a closer view of the beach. The waves crashed gently against the rocks, creating a natural soundtrack. Soon, the awaited moment arrived—the sunset. The sky transformed into shades of orange, pink, and purple, reflecting beautifully on the water. It was a moment of pure awe.

Tips for Visiting Tanah Lot

Best time: Arrive around 16:30–17:00 to avoid heavy traffic but still catch the perfect sunset.

Entrance fee: IDR 75,000 per person (bring cash).

What to bring: Camera, comfortable shoes, and a light jacket if it’s windy.

Nearby attractions: Small stalls and local restaurants for souvenirs or snacks.

Final Thoughts

Tanah Lot is more than just a temple—it’s where culture meets nature in the most magical way. Watching the sunset here was unforgettable. If you ever visit Bali, don’t miss this iconic spot. Walking along the beach, seeing the temples, and watching the sun dip below the horizon is an experience you will never forget.
